Leonetto Cappiello International Award

Award Values

The Leonetto Cappiello International Award is based on a set of values that guide its design, organisation and development. These values represent the deep identity of the competition and are what distinguishes it from a simple artistic competition.

They translate into practice the philosophy that inspired the entire initiative, reaffirming the centrality of culture, beauty and creative responsibility.

Conscious creativity

The Leonetto Cappiello International Award promotes free creativity based on historical and communicative awareness.

The aim is not to imitate, but to rework Cappiello’s style in an original and personal way, creating new visual narratives that can speak to the present with the universal language of art.

Innovation while respecting tradition

Just as Cappiello was able to break the mould of his time, the Prize encourages artists to look forward, without losing the link with their roots. Tradition is not seen as a limitation, but as a solid base on which to build something new, current and meaningful.

Territory and identity

The competition is deeply connected to the city of Livorno and the Tuscan context, not only because of the figure of Cappiello, but also because of the cultural and gastronomic value that these places represent.

Each work must also be capable of expressing a part of this collective identity, enhancing territorial specificity as an element of strength.

Accessibility of art

The poster has been, and continues to be, a popular, accessible, direct art form. The Cappiello Award revives this nature, ensuring that the works are comprehensible, communicative and capable of reaching a wide audience, while maintaining a high aesthetic quality.

Training and growth

Particular attention is paid to the student category, with the intention of offering an authentic training experience that can develop young creative people and prepare them for the professional world.

The competition is also designed as a teaching tool, an opportunity to develop skills, discipline and a critical spirit.

Ethics and fairness

The Award is committed to ensuring transparency in the selections, respect for the rules, recognition of merit and equal opportunities for all participants.

The use of artificial intelligence in the creation of works is expressly forbidden, in the name of the centrality of human intervention in the creative act.

Dialogue between languages and generations

Finally, the competition is intended to be a meeting point between artists from different backgrounds, education and age groups.

The jury, the confrontation with the public and the final exhibition represent opportunities for cultural exchange between worlds that often do not communicate. In this sense, the Cappiello Prize is also a workshop of relationships, ideas and new visions.
